Some unconventional ideas for gish may be: Ancestral guardian or totem warrior barbarian with magical initiate and/or spell sniper to add a little extra magic. As said by earlier posts: Bladesinger wizard, Valor bard, and Hexblade warlock are the best casting gish examples in the game with a single class.
